			NEWEL KAY BROWN is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah where he first studied composition with Leroy Robertson at the University of Utah. Graduate degrees were undertaken at the University of California at Berkeley and Eastman School of Music where he completed his Ph.D in Composition & Theory under Bernard Rogers, Howard Hanson, and Wayne Barlow.

			Teaching positions included Centenary College for Women in New Jersey, Henderson State College in Arkansas, and the University of North Texas, where he retired as chairman of the composition division in the College of Music. A listing of his compositions reflects an interest in a variety of styles and instrumental combinations.

			Dr. Brown is a former member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and members of the LDS Church are familiar with his Primary song, "I Hope They Call Me On A Mission," and Hymn No. 71, "With Songs of Praise." He presently resides in Dallas, Texas.<ref>http://www.tritone-tenuto.com/brown.htm</ref>
