This three-minute solo marimba piece for the advanced player is written in a fluid, impressionist style reminiscent of Debussy. Performance notes indicate that the piece has its harmonic roots in the music of the rock group Deep Purple, although is sounds more like “La Mer” than “Smoke On the Water.” It is unmetered (although loosely interpreted in 4/4) and there are freely interpreted rhythmic subdivisions. The work is primarily a four-mallet arpeggiated melody utilizing the entire range of a four-octave marimba. Although it is played quite fast on the recording, it could be interpreted much slower, if desired. Due to its brevity, “Over The Moon” would make an excellent recital encore piece or a short solo work in a concert setting.<reF>https://www.pas.org/resources/research/research-compositions Accessed 4/14/2020</ref><br />
