== Performance Notes ==
Position all drums on stands within comfortable reach of the player and allow the cymbals to sustain. Setup the instruments in a square configuration with the low drum to the player's left, medium drum to the player's right, the high drum directly "above" the low drum and the hi-hat stand "above" the middle drum and next to the high drum.

== Program Notes ==
Taiko means "drum" in Japanese. Japanese taiko drums, while having the roots in Chinese and Korean traditions, have been developed into a wide range of percussion instruments that are used in both Japanese folk and classical musical traditions. Among taiko's array of instruments are found both small ahd drums, as well as some of the largest drums on earth. Modern taiko in Asia and North America has evolved into a form of mental, physical and martial arts training that combines rhythm, harmony and movement. Ensembles are experimenting with new forms, arrangements and instruments, making taiko an exciting link between ancient traditions and modern performance art.
