TOUR, is commissioned by SZPA (Shenzhen Percussion Association), for 2023 Shenzhen Percussion Competition. This piece was written during the tour of NCPA Orchestra. Because of the dreams, we bravely set outthe TOUR, is not for the destination, but to enjoy the pleasure and treasure of the journey.<br />

Composed in 2023, this unaccompanied snare drum solo provides the performer with a diversity of challenging styles — from orchestral snare drumming to elements of rudimental style. “Tour” was commissioned by the Schenzhen Association. Opening with snares off, the work showcases the snare drummer with contrasts in dynamics from forte to pianissimo and from multiple-bounced rolls to single-stroke rolls contrasted with doublestroke passages. Metric diversities range from conventional 4/4 to 3/4 to 10/16 and 9/8. A smooth transition returning to “snares on” at measure 63 provides an opportunity for gradual crescendo and a change in timbre. Metric and dynamic control are necessary components to a successful performance. This snare drum solo would make a fresh selection for the intermediate to advanced snare drummer. —Jim Lambert<br />
