Program Notes
The percussion ensemble version of Not far from here by Blake Tyson is a beautiful and thoughtful work, solely for pitched percussion instruments, that was written as an aural reflection of the idea that when somebody passes from our lives they still live with us in spirit. Composed as a chorale, the real challenge in each part is making everything sound warm and lush on instruments that have a hard time creating long, smooth lines. A lot of musicality will be required out of each player.
