Program Notes
Journey is a collection of eleven advanced snare drum compositions that offer a series of challenging “trips” for the performer. Each, around three minutes in length, contain unique musical experiences for the performer, educator and audience. The collection includes both modern rhythms and traditional musical expression to stretch the musical expertise and technical abilities of the performer. They can be performed individually or as a “Suite” since each has an exceptionally wide range of timbres and effects. The educator will notice many traditional and modern musical terms and percussive effects to discuss with the student. Notation and terminology are varied on purpose to expose the performer to the widest range of contemporary and conventional styles.
