Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Percussion Syllabus is designed to offer a flexible approach to percussion assessment. There are exams at ABRSM Grade 8 Keyboard Percussion, ABRSM Grade 8 Snare Drum and ABRSM Grade 8 Timpani as individual, standalone subjects. Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music also offer ABRSM Grade 8 Orchestral Percussion to allow candidates to demonstrate their skills in all three subjects.
Percussion exams consist of three pieces, studies or scales and arpeggios, sight-reading and aural tests. Total marks in all individual Practical exams are 150. 100 marks are required to achieve a Pass, 120 to pass with Merit and 130 marks to pass with Distinction.
