Program Notes

A significant amount of Holt's output is scored for chamber ensemble, often reflecting his interest in the visual arts and literature. The Banshee, according to legend is 'less a shape than a mournful screaming that haunts the Irish night and the Scottish Highlands. Beneath the window of the visited house, she foretells the death of one of the family. Banshee was commissioned by Melinda Maxwell and is dedicated to her and Richard Benjafield, the percussionist at the first performance.
