Tsoof Baras writes predominantly music for percussion and percussion ensembles. Composing for SoundStruck, Tsoof has written and experimented with body percussion and novelty percussion music. His works for body percussion have been performed in front of audiences at the Queensland Conservatorium as well as on ABC Radio’s Afternoon Program with Kelly Higgins Devine.
Tsoof Baras has also experimented with composition combined with visual mediums. In a series of compositions inspired by synesthesia and the Blue Man Group, these videos went on to start his drumming ensemble SoundStruck.
Having played in percussion ensembles from a young age, this style of music and instrumentation is commonly filled by standard instrumentation being used in the same way. Tsoof’s music catalogue is filled with creative instrumentation such as body percussion, harmonic whirlies, pieces for only auxilary instruments, as well as compositions that can be used for ensembles of any size with part doubling.
The aim of ensemble music is to allow students and ensembles to discover groove and collaborate together to develop their skills. To do all of this and inspire students to commit time and effort to improve their ensemble.
