Description

Eric Ewazen's Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra, written for virtuoso She-E Wu, is considered to be one of the flagships of the marimba repertoire, as well as one of the most popular concertos played by percussionists. Performing it is a daunting task indeed, as it requires extraordinary accuracy and attention to detail, as well as mastery of all strokes usable by a marimbist...not to mention that the entire concerto is nearly 30 minutes long. All that being said, the concerto is one of the most beautiful pieces written for the instrument, composed in Ewazen's neo-romantic harmonic language.

Movement

Movement 1: Andante / Allegro Vivace
Movement 2: Andante Cantabile
Movement 3: Allegro con Fuoco
