Cowabunga Rock was commissioned in 2019 for Hawaii Youth Percussion Ensemble (HYPE) by student Caden Hong of Honolulu, Hawai. A nod to ‘Surf Music’ made popular throughout Hawaii and Southern California in the 1960’s, Cowabunga Rock is written for 6 percussionists. This work provides developing performers the opportunity to play mallets and drums alike.
