Program Notes

Korsakov was a famous Russian composer of the late Romantic period. One of the most well-known Russian composers, he was part of the Mighty 5, a group of prominent Russian composers of his time. He wrote and orchestrated some of classical music's most often-played works. He was also a teacher of musical composition and is considered the architect of modern Russian classical music. This piece is from Act 3 of his opera The Snow Maiden, which premiered in 1882.
