Program Notes

Divertissement is the French equivalent of “diversion,” in the sense of amusement or entertainment. The work is a playful yet demanding tour-de-force for the solo timpanist, including many tuning changes and challenging sticking patterns. The work is broken into several sections concluding each with a short timpani cadenza. Divertissement was the 2nd place winner in the 2001 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest.
