[[Richard Hochrainer]]'s Etudes for Timpani (Volume 2) contains 56 small studies that work on many aspects of [[timpani]], including mallet choice, many different tempi, sound quality and roll quality. While relatively under-the-radar in the United States, this book is one of the standards in much of Europe. A special note to all of you American timpanists out there: this book assumes that you're using the German timpani layout - with the highest drum on the left - and stickings will be marked as such. The note 'H' appears sometimes as well, which is simply our 'B'.
