Richard Hochrainer's Etudes fur Timpani (Volume 3) includes several studies intended to prepare students for life in the orchestra. Pulling in material from all sorts of famous orchestral timpani parts, this book is excellent lesson material. Richard Hochrainer also includes a very healthy dose of practical and pedagogical advice in the opening pages, which would normally be very expensive to learn in a one-on-one lesson situation with a professional.
