Review

GREEN HILL, for marimba quintet with string bass, was apparently first published in 1958 and revised for this 1977 publication. The piece is a welcome addition to the available literature which focuses on the technical and musical problems of playing a sustained line on the marimba. The composer calls attention to three specific areas needing careful attention, including the sustained legato sound, the contrapuntal texture, and the dynamic independence required of each player. A low A sharp is required for the fifth part; the playing time is just under six minutes, and Kendor has graded the work a 4 1/2. - Gary Olmstead[1]
