DETLEF HEUSINGER was born in 1956 and studied composition, conducting, musicology, German literature and philosophy as well as guitar, lute and piano. His teachers were Hans Werner Henze and Klaus Huber (composition) and Francis Travis (conducting).
He has received many prizes for his music, including the Composition Prize from the City of Stuttgart, as well as scholarships (Cité des Arts, Paris; Villa Massimo, Rome; Heinrich Strobel Foundation of SWR and Baldreit Fellowship from the City of Baden-Baden). His compositional output centres on stage works such as Der Turm (Bremen) and Babylon (Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele). Besides composing, he has also taught at Bremen University of the Arts (1990–1996) and worked as a director in opera and dance theatre (1991–2005). In that time he has headed more than 20 opera productions. He served as an artistic director of the Rossini Festival Rügen (1993–1995) and has been artistic director of the EXPERIMENTALSTUDIO since October 2006.[1]
