Jan Faulkner studied percussion, timpani and piano at [[Royal Northern College of Music]]. Jan Faulkner was appointed as principal percussionist and timpanist of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra while studying at Royal Northern College of Music, which Jan Faulkner gave up the role in 1985. Jan Faulkner taught in Wells Cathedral School for sixteen years.  In September 2003 Jan Faulkner became the first Outreach Officer of Wells Cathedral School, responsible for building sustainable links with schools in Wells.

While living in Wells, Jane Faulkner used her composing talents to create a large number of short, easy-to-understand and enjoyable works to inspire the interest of beginners in percussion. Jane Faulkner regards instrumental performance as a group ensemble activity rather than a solo activity, so the accompaniment of the music she created is very simple, so percussion teachers who are not professional piano players can also play the piano accompaniment of the music smoothly. Jan Faulkner has been an percussion examiner at the [[Guildhall School of Music and Drama]] (later known as [[Trinity College London]]). In 2006, Jane Faulkner participated in the preparation of the timpani, snare drum and tuned percussion exam syllabus of [[Trinity College London]] with [[Michael Skinner]] and [[Jayne Obradovic]]. In the percussion syllabus of [[Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music]], Jan Faulkner's works also appear on the list.
