Let me introduce myself: my name is John Maassen, born 17-07-1958 in Heerlen, living in Grevenbicht. As a 7-year-old, I walked into the fatherhood "Oos Hoes" in Grevenbicht, accompanied by Pa Maassen. There I received my first musical training on the recorder. Took trumpet lessons from 1968. After that I played in the horn section for many years. From 1974 onwards the bass drum was used by the drum band during street performances.

I spent my time in service with the drum corps “Garde Grenadiers” (drum band KMK) in Arnhem. He also played in many dance orchestras and accompanied well-known artists such as Danny Christian, the Blue Diamonds and Freddy Beck. I also spent seven wonderful years with the orchestra “Game” and during this time I studied for the D diploma in percussion as well as the instructor diploma, which was obtained in 1989 at Kreato in Thorn.

In 1993 I took over as conductor from Jos Stoffels at the drum band of St. Cecilia in Grevenbicht. Not my first Drum Band as an instructor, this was preceded by the Drum Bands of St. Mathias Posterholt and St. Hubertus Nattenhoven. I also work for the drum bands of Juliana Holtum, Concordia Einighausen, De Vriendenkring Limbricht and St.Joseph Buchten (shooting club).[1]
