Program Notes

Mime was composed in 1998 for Evelyn Glennie as an encore work for solo snare drum to accompany her performances of my fantasy for percussion and orchestra, Der gerettete Alberich. Mime, of course, is Alberich's brother in Wagner's Ring operas, and so my small piece makes substantial use of the Nibelung motive from that tetralogy.
