"Pastiche" for solo marimba is tailor- made for students beginning four-mallet studies. Unlike Peters' "Yellow After the Rain," which contains a middle section that features the exclusive use of single alternating strokes, "Pastiche" focuses on double vertical strokes. The student will find the four-mallet chordal patterns fun to play, thanks to a catchy rhythmic scheme. Once again, Peters has managed to construct a piece with pedagogical value that also fulfills the criteria of a successful solo. - John R. Raush, August 1999 [1]
