Review
This 4-mallet marimba solo uses (as one would expect!) the number 5 in various manifestations: the interval of a fifth, and the meters of 5/8 and 5/4; the quintuple division of the beat; and the key of Db (five flats) Die opening sections use the sticking pattern of 4/ 12 3 4 2. Succeeding sections use alternated and 4-note struck chords of fifths and sixth. The closing chorale in Db is rather pandiatonic in nature with some mild dissonances Dynamics and tempo changes are clearly marked in the score. This would appear to work better as a teaching piece in a rather mechanical application of a few basic 4-mallet techniques. Reviewed By: John Baldwin Review Originally Published: Spring 1989[1]
