Peter Prommel studied in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and Oberlin (USA). He studied marimba with Leigh Howard Stevens and Keiko Abe. He won several prizes for his marimba-solo playing, among which the Laureate of the 'Concertgebouw' and the 'Concertgebouw Orchestra' and a prize in the 'Gaudeamus International Interpreters Competition'.

Peter Prommel was soloist with amongst others, at the 'Concertgebouw Orchestra' and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. The CD of the live-recorded TV production with Jonathan Harvey's Percussion Concerto (featuring mostly the marimba) was rewarded with a 10 in the Dutch Magazine 'Luister'. Peter Prommel played until 1991 for 10 years with the Percussion Group Amsterdam, as percussionist, composer and conductor.

Since 1999 he teaches marimba, percussion, timpani and ensemble at the 'Hochschule für Musik' in Detmold (Germany) and teaches marimba at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He plays 'fun-programs' with the Netherlands Wind Ensemble all over the world. Peter was a member of the jury in the Leigh Howard Stevens Marimba Competition in 1999 and in 2002 he served as a jury member at the Percussion-Trio edition of the International Percussion Competition Luxembourg[1]
