John Russell is an Oakland based Producer/Composer. JR started his musical journey at age 5 studying violin with the Suzuki program. He played drums with the band Liquid Cactus during high school, performing all over the Annapolis/Baltimore/DC area. After moving to North Carolina, JR played guitar with the band Bag of Nickels and a brief stint drumming with the band Megelen. Now based in Oakland California, he has been active drumming in numerous Bay Area bands over the years, as well as artist production and film scoring. He has enjoyed working with a wide array of artists such as John Medeski, Dave Fiuczynski, Scott Amendola, SF Film Commission, Paris, Chuck D., Jon Evans, DJ Dave, T.Sisters, Matt Heulitt, Moorea Dickason, Derick Hughes, Odessa Chen, Monique Vieras, D.a.v.o, Shungtz, T.Mitch, Aaron Renner, DubMorton, Matthew Schoening, Jenny Sheinman, RC Lee, Mark Pistel and many more. He was one of the first Analysts and Genome Designers hired by Pandora in the start-up days, then Savage Beast Technologies.
