Program Notes

for the 2012 ESU Music Day Percussion Section.

Teh Pwnin Machine was written for the 2012 ESU Music Day Percussion Section. This is a day where as many as 40-50 musicians come together and perform chamber music with each other. This piece was designed for the high school and middle school students to perform for the closing concert. The piece is written to allow multiple players playing a variety of instruments on each of the mallet and percussion parts.

Teh Pwnin Machine is an exploration of sound using low drums, and shimmering high dissonance. The non-traditional method and instruments allow the students the opportunity to explore the colors of these instruments while trying to make a soundscape ambience for the piece to unfold.
