Descriptions
The Charger by Art Cappio is a half old-school, half new-school rudimental snare drum solo that walks the line pretty nicely. Detailed instructions on the back of the sheet music explain exactly how certain musical moments should be interpreted.
Performance Notes
Measures 1 - 16: Rule of raised and lowered arms as well as observing dynamic markings must be followed. The theory of prepositioning will prevail throughout.
Measures 17 - 24: Ruffs are contemporarily notated and care should be taken in interpret them exactly as 32nd subdivisions.
Measures 25 - 36: Flams must be played clean and precise. Watch the dynamic markings.
Measures 37 - 44: Observe the artificial groupings of six 16th notes. Do not rush. Care should be taken to not place another arm movement on the second beat of measure38. Let the accents dictate your arm movement.
Measures 54 - 68: Dynamics must be observed and watched for carefully. Note the use of a common forte piano on the first beat of frequent measures. Accents must be distinct and clear while the perpetual motion is rolling.
Measures 69 75: Observe frequent accents with underlying perpetual motion of roll.
