Program Notes

dedication: to my wife, Mary

Review - Tom O'Connor's composition entitled The Winding River is scored for six percussionists. Player I is assigned to a marimba; player II, vibes; player III, snare drum and temple blocks; player IV, four tom-toms; player V, suspended cymbal and gong; player VI, two timpani. This grade III percussion ensemble work is suitable for junior high-aged student percussionists. Moderate musical sophistication combined with specific limitations on technique allow this sextet to be prepared for concert or ensemble contest within a short time-frame. - James Lambert, July, 1984.
