Description
Vociferation by Jack Stamp is a 12 player percussion ensemble that was on the UIL Prescribed Music List. This piece is dedicated to Dr. Gary Olmstead who for 37 years was the only percussion professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. There is lots of syncopation and rhythms that go over the bar line. There are fugues galore throughout the piece, as well as abundant mallet changes. The first section of the piece switches between unnerving minimalism and thick, frenzied melody. The battery and timpani then briefly take over, ending the section in a burst of sharp sounds. With the primal scream let out, the piece turns serene with soft harmonies and light timbres in the mallet instruments. The fast minimalistic rhythms then return in the battery, and the piece ends the way it began.
