Wolfgang Sonntag began his musical career as a child, teaching hemself to play the flute, clarinet and drum set / percussion in a wind band. After his school-days he spent four years playing clarinet and big-band drums with the military band "Marinemusikkorps Nordsee". He took the state-certified music teachers' exam after studying in Bremen Conservatory. Since 1974 Wolfgang Sonntag has worked at the music schools in Bremen and Verden as a percussion and clarinet teacher. In 1975 he became first percussionist of the Philharmonische Staatsorchester in Bremen.
