Himalayan Landscapes was a project that was completed and performed in Spring of 2023. I have found that most large percussion ensemble works are sinister by nature. It is very easy to pick a scary scale and expound on those melodies and darker timbres. Through this project, I tried capturing a lighter side of this instrumentation. I decided I wanted to write something that was uplifting and awe-inspiring and nothing gives that feeling more than grand mountain ranges. Throughout this driving and intense work, my goal was give the audience that grand imagery as the ensemble performs. Although the work is largely uplifting, I did also want to encapsulate moments of fear of the unknown or what is to come. I found a lot of my inspiration just from images of these scenic views. I hope through experiencing this piece, you can see just a glimpse of the Himalayan Landscapes.
