Description

The Blues and the Cake Walk are two forms of music that both have their roots in the music of slave laborers in America in the second half of the nineteenth century. The Gospels and Negro spirituals form the basis for the Blues, which in turn formed a breeding ground for Jazz and later pop music in the twentieth century. The Cake Walk is a dance that was first danced by American slaves. It is originally a satirical imitation of formal European dances. The dance takes its name from the fact that at the end of the performance of the original dance in a performance at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, a cake was awarded to the couple who performed the dance best.
