Program Notes

Unexpected bangs and colours, African grooves, Minimal Music, surprising instruments and cross rhythms are the ingredients of CrissCross. Cross rhythms are rhythms that suggest a different time from the present one. The result is polyrythm and rhythmic pattens shift, casuing the beat to be undermined and even replaced by another. If you don't know what you are hearing, you hear it properly.

Notes for the conductor

Hearing and seeing is the motto of CrissCross, and movements without sounds play an important role. Not only the players change places, but also the playing beside the can, the emptying of an already empty bucket and the silent tutticrash near the end. Furthermore the players who have a motive which fades out, continue with the movement before fading this out too, depending on the amount of time they need to move to the next instrument.
