Description

DARK CHASE is straight-forward program music, suggesting a frantic, relentless pursuit - perhaps through some gloomy urban maze of backstreets and alleys. It is night and the hunted is constantly looking over his or her shoulder; the pursuer is unyielding! Composed from the tile outward, the work's defining features include a brisk tempo, imitation at a close distance, and use of an artificial "mode" throughout. DARK CHASE was commissioned by the Whitehall High School Percussion Ensemble, Rick Hilborn, Director, for their performance at the 1991 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association annual conference (Pittsburgh, PA).
