Descriptions

This piece features a solo marimba and eight percussionists. The first movement is fast and incredibly rhythmic with a conversation of rhythms going back and forth between the solo marimba and percussion ensemble (with emphasis on the snare drum part). The movement goes on to merge the two sides together is various unison rhythms until the solo marimba eventually emerges as the melodic leader.

The second movement follows the typical musical plan is much slower and much more lyrical, giving the soloist the opportunity to really perform.

To perform this excellent ensemble requires an experienced soloist and eight trained percussionists that can blend the sound with one another while keeping the overall balance under the solo marimba. Diptych No. 2 is an exciting work and an excellent addition to any collegiate percussion ensemble concert.
