Program Notes

"Epiphyllum" is a cactus. The flower is said to bloom only once a year on a moonlit night, a fantasy of white moonlight and the white flower. Inspired by the tempting appearance of the flowers as if there was a quiet story, this piece was composed in 2000 as a piano solo, like a Nocturne, and premiered in 2007. This time, Yumi Terada Percussion Ensemble "Drive" asked me to create a piece for their album "Drive", and I revised it as a piece for mallet percussion. This work expresses exquisiteness and color through the combination of multiple fading tones, transcending pianism.
