+ | This multiple-percussion solo is scored for low tom-tom, timbales, snare drum, bongos, large woodblock, mounted cowbell, mounted agogo bells, and medium suspended cymbal. David Mancini composed this solo specifically for an individual who was performing his senior percussion undergraduate recital. Starting with a 2/3 clave groove on the woodblock, Mancini takes the performer through two distinctly contrasting Afro-Cuban grooves (one in 4/4; the second in 12/8), before settling into a solid samba in the second half of the composition. This five-minute, single-movement solo will serve as a contrast to typical recital repertoire and is a very effective solo for the college or advanced high school multiple percussionist. | ||
