Notes to Performer

• Instruments that are used in different Percussion parts (f.i. Tamtam in Perc. 3 & 6), can be shared.
• The “Trash Cymbal” can be made by placing 2 (old) crash cymbals (different sizes) over each other, optionally taped together.
• All melodic instrument parts are being played with 2 mallets.
• In the singing part, notes can be sung one octave higher when too low.

Description

A brown haze of misty shadows and a deep red glow, Curtains of fog and smoke, floating over No man’s land. Between the mess a fire still burns A flag is torn and red. Blood shed in the land. The winter cold and inclement. As far as eyes can look: barbed wire and hand grenades And corpses in the sand. Where nobody is safe, Where no one feels at home, Clattering bombs and roaring guns, the bitter sounds of hate. In No man’s land, friend and foe are far away from home. A place of hope and future Of reconciliation. A place of brotherhood, where football’s played at Christmas. “No man’s land” is a musical portrait of the absurdism of war.
