Description
This piece is dedicated to Eric's cat, Butter. She was staying with Eric through several apartments and houses, several jobs, Eric's wedding and the birth of Eric's child. in a way the circumstances that shaped Eric's early adulthood always included that cat. Losing a pet is odd and is only understood by those who have had a long-term pet. Instead of being slow and emotional, this piece is an up-tempo piece which best exemplifies Butters.
Performance Notes
1. Careful mallet selection is important in maximizing ensemble balance and blend. For xylophone, a softer rubber or cord mallet will keep the tone and volume more characteristic of the piece.
2. If the unison double-stop octaves in marimba and vibraphone parts are too difficult, feel free to omit one of the notes. Add and take away parts to best match your students' abilities.
3. If the drum set part is too difficulty, a split drum set part is available for two players.
4. If a Hi Hat is unavailable for the split drum set part, any other cymbal may be used.
