Program Notes
'SOUND BLOCKS was written in 1998 for David Hext's pupils at the Chethams School of Music in Manchester. David Hext has adapted it during lockdown to accommodate whatever in the Hallé percussion section happened to have at home. David Hext has to use a saucepan at one point! The idea of the piece is to demonstrate the different materials from which our instruments are made. So we start with wood, then on to skin, then metal, and finally a coda section which combines all three.'
