Program Notes
Only two mallets are required for the majority of the piece, with four required in the slower middle section. This is a wonderful addition to the existing body of marimba duet literature with the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic interplay between the two identical instruments. You can hear a recording of "Etude" on the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s CD, “Sketches” (also available from C. Alan).
