Program Notes

The original title of this work that plays well on keyboard percussion, was "Flute Piece for Flag Day." I wrote it on Flag Day one year, doing my patriotic thing. My Uncle Carl, my father's older brother by ten years, was born on that day in 1897, and hosted me many times in youth in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was a train engineer, and I got to attend Cleveland Indians major American League baseball games at Municipal Stadium, a thrill to say the least. Subconsciously perhaps it was a happy birthday musical gift to my uncle, who was married to Aunt Isabelle.
