Description
Messy Dream is the 2nd and 4th part of a large work called Dreams. This is a concert work for 16 percussionists, harp, accordion and choir. When composing Dreams, Ruud Mourik was inspired by various great symphonic composers. It includes characteristic themes from symphonies by Beethoven, Shostakowitch and Stravinsky. The rich sound idiom also has a symphonic feel. The almost absurd changes in styles and themes take the listener into a dream where almost anything is possible. The addition of the textless choir part also makes the whole thing even more resemble a surreal dream. The composer leaves what exactly happens in that dream to the listener.
