Program Notes

Julie Spencer is an internationally acclaimed solo marimbist and composer. Her compositional style is highly virtuosic while maintaining panache in writing a beautiful melody. Pink Elisa Spring is an exciting work that utilizes the left hand playing an ostinato while the right hand plays the melody, reminiscent of a style found in piano/jazz music. Heavily influenced by music from Africa, India, and American Jazz, Pink Elisa Spring is an amalgamation of influences and results in an exquisite composition that is as enjoyable to hear as it is to play.
