Program Notes

One of Canada's most prominent composers, Stephen Chatman, Professor of Composition at The University of British Columbia, Vancouver since 1976, is the first Canadian ever short-listed in the BBC Masterprize international competition. Quiet Exchange for clarinet or saxophone and two suspended cymbals was commissioned by clarinetist Robert Onofrey and premiered in Ann Arbor Michigan. The work explores the timbral colors of both the clarinet and cymbals.
