Program Notes

Review

Written in 5/4, throughout most of the solo the bass drum and hi hat play an ostinato or variation of the ostinato, while the hands play melodic figures on the rest of the set. There are no rolls involved and the piece requires only basic snare drum technique. The challenge lies in the area of independence between the hands and feet. The solo contains some very melodic phrases played on the snare, with snares turned off, and tom toms. A good performance piece, it is very musical as well as challenging. The level is intermediate/advanced and manuscript quality is very good. - Eddie Davidson, April 1980 [1]
