Program Notes

Triptych Motif is a four-drum timpani solo which should make a welcome addition to the studio and recital program. The composer is very clear in his instructions tbr mallet selection and sticking indications which are quite helpful for the technical passages. There are only two tuning changes, but unfortunately these may be avoided if the preformer elects to take the optional cut from measures 51-77. The solo is listed as a Grade VI, but this may seem a little high. There are some intricate triplet passages, quintuplets, a few cross rhythms, and accelerandi. The fast triplet passages are excellent for helping the performer to move around the instruments. The solo lays quite well and should be fun for the growing timpanist.
