Program Notes
This 2:05, grade 3, timpani solo is written for two timpani with no pitch changes. The form is A-B-A, with A in a rapid 6/8 (dotted quarter = 100 and 132) and B in a rapid 2/4 and a slower 4/4. With the exception of two instances of right-over-left cross-sticking, no stickings are indicated. Rolls are used at various dynamic levels, some with crescendos, and some with Fp. Dynamics range from pp to fff, thus creating some problems with tonal control. This would be a good teaching piece, as well as a good junior high festival/contest piece.
